You've all heard the warnings: a lack of sleep can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. But how many of us are really making a concerted effort to up our sleep game?
Here's the thing:
Sleep is vital to the continued functioning of your body, and you'll spend about a third of your life catching Z's. That means you're going to be spending some quality time with your mattress, so it's important to give it the respect that it deserves.
Choosing a mattress is no small task, especially when you need to balance the thickness of your mattress with the thickness of your wallet. Luckily, Tuft & Needle make a couple of extremely affordable and incredibly comfortable mattresses that can help you rest easy without losing sleep over your finances.
Not sure which one will fit your sleeping style? We've done the research so you don't have to. In this article, we'll take a look at each Tuft & Needle mattress to help you decide which is right for you.
Sleepers can shift positions without disturbing their partner due to this mattress's superb motion isolation. Provides a high level of comfort for sleepers of all styles, and it's extremely durable.
No grips attached, so transporting this mattress can be difficult. Additionally, extra comfort means it's more expensive than the Tuft & Needle Original.
The Tuft & Needle Mint takes the high-performance design of their flagship mattress and brings it up a notch by adding a foam transition layer and increasing the overall thickness of the mattress. Surprisingly, these seemingly minor changes lead to significant differences between the Mint and the Original: the Mint is softer and performs better for a wider variety of sleeping styles.
While the Original doesn't provide a particularly comfortable sleep for average to tall back sleepers, the Mint fills in this performance gap. In addition, it offers improved comfort for stomach sleepers. Combo sleepers will have no trouble changing positions throughout the night, and the superb motion isolation capabilities of this mattress means their partners will be able to sleep soundly as well.
The mattress sleeps fairly cool, which is due both to the graphite foam and its polyester cover. Unfortunately, the cover is not removable, but the supplied one performs very well, so this isn't much of an issue.
This mattress continued to perform excellently after years of simulated usage. There should be no issues with the durability or longevity of this mattress.
While the Tuft & Needle Mint does cost significantly more than the Original, the improved performance does correlate well with the increased price: the comfort and support for average to tall back sleepers is significantly better, and edge support is greatly improved. Despite the increased cost, this mattress still manages to undercut much of the competition. If you have the budget, you'll likely find it's worth your while to upgrade.
Provides a cool sleep due to its excellent breathability and minimal body heat retention. Additionally, it conforms well to sleepers' bodies and is very comfortable for side sleepers.
Doesn't feel as firm as advertised, and the average to tall back sleepers may find it doesn't offer enough support.
The Tuft & Needle Original is a dual-layer mattress made of two different types of polyfoam. On top, there's a gel and graphite infused comfort layer, and just below that is a support layer made of less dense polyfoam. In conjunction, they work together to provide a comfortable sleep, relieve pressure, and conform to the sleeper's body.
Due to its superior pressure relief, the Tuft and Needle Original is especially well suited to those with back or joint pain. However, the performance of this mattress will be best appreciated by petite and average side sleepers, while average to tall back sleepers will likely find it lacking.
Edge support is a bit poor, and many will find this mattress feels a bit softer than one would expect given its firmness rating. These negatives are balanced out in part by the fact that it provides superb motion isolation and is excellent at absorbing perspiration as well as dispersing body heat.
After years of simulated use, the Tuft and Needle Original held up extremely well with only minimal signs of wear and tear. Sleepers should have no qualms about purchasing this mattress for the long haul.
The Tuft and Needle Original manages to provide excellent performance at nearly half the price of many of its competitors. For such a relatively low price point, this mattress's comfort, support, and durability is truly impressive and deserves a thorough consideration from anyone who sleeps (hint: that's you).
